A rare and special find. Mid to late 1930s Callot Soeurs negligee in beautiful sheer silk crepe chiffon with lace inserts and long waist ties. This piece has all the accoutrements of a most charming day dress and is far too special to remain indoors but the piece was appraised here in New York as a "lingerie" piece and most likely produced in the latter half of the 1930s period. This excerpt below is from the Vintage Fashion Guild website page. The piece is in wonderful condition with a little minor pulling at the underarm lace and a few very tiny spots of dye on the front skirt. Color is a soft lavender. A collectors dream and a very rare label! Serious offers considered, available for layaway. For more information or images please contact the shop.
Callot Soeurs was a design house started in Paris in 1895 by the three Callot sisters; Marie, Marthe and Regine. The eldest sister, Marie, was the head designer and the visionary of the group. Under her direction, the house became famous for their use of antique laces and lavish beading. They made fashionable gold and silver lamé dresses starting in the teens, and lasting throughout the 1920s.
They are also remembered for their use of exotic fabrics and embroideries, and for their technical skill in cut and construction. Marie retired in 1937, and the House of Callot Soeurs merged with the House of Calvet. The Callot Soeur label continued to be used until 1948, when the house closed.
