sale / Dusky Pink Still Life / 1930s-40s

As soon as I spotted this oil on board I knew I wanted it for the shop and it is difficult to show the wonderful texture and detail in these photos. Strong and vibrant brushstrokes, texture and fantastic colors in the flowers as well as the small figure with kite that sits beside the vase. Signed Mary Allen. The rear of the frame was covered at some stage with floral paper which nicely dates the artwork to c. 1930s-40s. The backing cardboard looks to have been used as a brush cleaner by the artist! Would benefit from some backing paper but not essential. Some wear to the gold frame but patina matches the piece nicely. A great painting full of subtle but gorgeous color.

condition: see notes above, overall good with some dirt and areas of spilled varnish. overall great patina and appearance. Rough backing card could be removed.
