Lajos Markos Portrait / 1960
I fell in love with this beautiful portrait as soon as I spotted her across a booth of gorgeous antiques! It wasn't until I got home and researched the signature that I realized the artist is Lajos Markos, a Hungarian-American portrait painter who painted celebrities in New York City until the 1960s when he moved to Houston and began his highly-valued Western American works. I am unsure who this young woman is and have not been able to find a specific reference online. The portrait was recently appraised at 1000.00. Signed and dated, 1960.
condition: overall the painting has a beautiful patina and creamy green hues. Some crackling to the surface and paint loss from face, see close ups. In my opinion these condition notes add to the overall appeal and do not deter at all from the mastery of the work itself. Appears to have been framed originally as very slight indentation on edge visible.
30 x 24", frame is 1" in depth.
